Partnerships

The Kirwan Institute has over two decades of experience partnering with communities around the country to use both originally collected and publicly available data to understand and empower themselves.

As collaborative convenors, our goal is to collaborate with individuals and communities by facilitating their understanding of the options available to them so that each community can decide what works best for them to move toward prosperity for all. Our community-focused research model has produced close to 500 consequential research projects, including 71 to date in Ohio.

Kirwan’s Approach to Partnership: Communities of Practice

We organize our partnerships and outreach using a community of practice model. A community of practice is simply a group of individuals who seek to study or explore a particular topic together, rather than separately. Kirwan’s communities of practice focus on providing a shared context for people who would not normally cross paths to capture and share existing knowledge while facilitating the advancement of producing new knowledge.
