10-Year Strategic Vision
As part of its 20th anniversary commemoration the Kirwan Institute embarked upon a strategic visioning process to chart a future that embraces what Kirwan does best: produce robust academic research.

Our new mission statement, We DREAM and we EMPOWER in pursuit of a future that brings all of us TOGETHER, also emerged out of this process. We are grateful to the 15 members of the strategic vision committee, which included OSU faculty, Kirwan staff, community partners and funders who dedicated their time and talents to help us develop three moonshots that we are excited to pursue.
Our Strategic Vision consists of three interrelated moonshots
The Kirwan Institute serves as an intellectual community for scholars who study a variety of research topics through our faculty affiliate program. Our ongoing practices of research excellence involve having both a talented staff team that conducts interdisciplinary, applied research and connections with scholars and communities who can challenge each other to continue to innovate.
Our committee participated in a Strategic Doing process facilitated by Jeff Agnoli that incorporated the insights of Kirwan staff, their own experiences with Kirwan, and new learning about Kirwan’s history.

Vision
Pursue new concepts that transform how we contend with complex challenges of today.
Moonshot
Develop 3 key concepts that revolutionize the field by making Kirwan the optimal intellectual community of practice for scholars of race and ethnicity.
