Shannon Gillespie

Dr. Shannon L. Gillespie is a Ph.D.-prepared nurse scientist at the Ohio State University and a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. With clinical expertise in maternal-infant health and scientific expertise in translational psychoneuroimmunology, Dr. Gillespie is among a handful of scientists working to optimize maternal-infant health and prevent maternal and infant morbidity and mortality from this unique perspective. More specifically, Dr. Gillespie’s expertise allows her to both scientifically discover and clinically optimize novel methods for psychoneuroimmune monitoring, transforming our ability to predict and prevent complications among antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum populations. With approximately 20 years of experience in various research settings, Dr. Gillespie now leads two NIH-funded projects as Principal Investigator (R01HD110503, R01NR021111) and has filed two patents on her novel methods (63/610,784, PCT/US2024/060034). She also provides consultation to teams incorporating psychoneuroimmune monitoring into their work among diverse populations (e.g., AHA SFRN) and is passionate about mentoring students of diverse disciplines and inspiring them to bravely tackle our nation’s most complex problems using their unique skillsets.
