Jocelyn Smallwood joined Kirwan in Summer of 2018 as a communications intern. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies from Ohio State and is currently pursuing a degree in Music Education.

Prior to her time at Kirwan, Jocelyn worked at a public relations firm in Columbus as a communications consultant, serving as a spokesperson and strategic advisor for a number of non-profits, private companies and political campaigns.

After graduating with her music degree, Jocelyn hopes to begin career as an instrumental music educator and eventually pursue graduate work focusing on connections between access to music education and race, as well as what educators can do to create a more equitable and inclusive learning environment for minority students.

In her spare time, Jocelyn enjoys playing soccer, traveling and performing as a member of the Ohio State University Wind Symphony and the Athens-based Jazz group ‘Largemouth Brass Band.’
