Fair Housing Assessment for Austin, TX

This work is a collaborative effort between Green Doors, an Austin nonprofit to house the homeless, and the Institute. The work is also driven by a committee of other partners, including The City of Austin, Travis County, The Housing Authorities of the City of Austin and Travis County, and The Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG), whose participation as a Sustainable Communities Initiative (SCI) grantee will pull many of these findings into their regional Fair Housing and Equity Assessment. The Institute partnered with the City of Austin in 2007 to produce the first report on opportunity in the Austin area, which now affords us the chance to assess the dynamics of opportunity by analyzing how aspects of opportunity have changed over the ensuing years using a series of maps based on a Change Index—the first time we have looked at opportunity longitudinally in this way.
